TABLE//299

Design Process & Prototypes, 2019

This table is a design for a furniture course challenging students to create something from one 4’ x 8’ plywood sheet. This table serves as a multipurpose solution for entertaining spaces.

This table was designed around the concept of stacking and creating useful voids from a larger mass. The way veneers are stacked and glued to create plywood sheets was the inspiration for this design, which aims to suggest that it is cut from a single thick piece - 299 veneers thick (13 veneers x 23 pieces).

The voids offer storage for books, games, and small electronics, and create connected openings for charging cables. The heavy-duty lockable casters make for easy movement so it can serve as a seat when necessary.
